We are a basic neuroscience research laboratory. Our research goals are to discover how the nervous system is changed in neurodevelopmental disorders or by traumatic brain injury and to use this information to develop new treatments. The lab is part of the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine. UC Irvine is a world-class research university with highly ranked graduate programs in neuroscience and biological sciences. Our Southern California location is home to one of the largest academic research and biotechnology hubs in the US. Lab members enjoy direct access to this outstanding community of neuroscientists and clinicians as well as the wide range of recreational activities available in our region. In the lab, we are committed to providing a fun, safe, productive and intellectually stimulating place for scientific discovery. Lab members come from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. This diversity of ideas and perspectives is extraordinarily valuable to the health and growth of our laboratory. Each person is encouraged to pursue research questions that interest them, within the scope of our work, and to actively accelerate scientific progress of the lab. Postdoctoral Fellows

If you are interested in a postdoc position in our lab, send an email to robert.hunt@uci.edu that includes your CV and contact information for three references. Please also send a short (no more than 2 pg) description of your research describing your past experience, future goals, what type of project you hope to work on and how you think you can contribute to the overall research direction of the lab. Because the purpose of a postdoc position is to eventually become an independent scientist, postdocs will be expected to apply for (and hopefully obtain) their own funding as part of their training. As such, competitive applicants will have at least one high-quality, first-author publication and will be strong candidates for obtaining external fellowship funding. To apply to our open recruitment: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF08657.

Graduate Students

If you are already a student here in either the INP or MSTP program, please complete the application form for the lab and send an email to robert.hunt@uci.edu so we can set up a time to discuss your interest in our lab. We are always looking for students who are excited about our research to join the lab.  If you are not already a student here, you will need to first apply to UCI through the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program or the Medical Scientist Training Program. We have 1-2 graduate student positions available in 2023-24.

Undergraduate Students

If you are an undergraduate student at UCI and looking for a training position through Bio Sci 199, please complete the application form for the lab. The link to our lab-specific Bio199 page can be found here. We only accept undergraduates who want to spend multiple quarters working in the lab. Many of our experiments require extensive training, and we strongly prefer students who wish to contribute in substantive ways to our research program, and even develop independent projects. We typically discuss project needs and new Bio199 applicants to the lab during a lab meeting at the end of each quarter. We are looking for up to 3 Bio199 students to join the lab in 2023-24.

Research Assistant

If you are looking for a technician, research assistant or lab manager position, please complete the application form for the lab and send your CV and contact information for three references to Robert Hunt (robert.hunt@uci.edu). Lab technicians have an opportunity to participate in all aspects of our work, including mouse models of epilepsy and neurodevelopment, novel molecular biology tools and iPS cells. Please also include a brief statement describing your previous research experience, lab skills, and career goals. We are recruiting a lab technician in 2023-24. See our ad here.

High School Students

If you are in high school and interested in our research, we would love to meet you, discuss science and even give you a tour of the lab. However, due to the nature of our work, we are not accepting internship applications from high school students.
